Chicago Blackhawks goalie Spencer Knight remains out with an illness, missing his third consecutive game.

Blackhawks goaltender Spencer Knight will miss his third straight game due to an illness when Chicago hosts the Utah Hockey Club on Monday night at the United Center.

Knight, 24, was a late scratch ahead of Friday’s 6-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on March 6, prompting the team to sign local emergency backup goaltender Caydon Edwards to a professional tryout as a precaution. He did not travel with the team for Sunday’s 4-3 overtime road loss to the Dallas Stars on March 8, and while there was initial hope for a return Monday, that has not materialized.

Head coach Jeff Blashill confirmed the update to CHGO’s Mario Tirabassi after Monday’s optional morning skate, noting that Knight “took a bit of a twirl” and is still not ready to return.

In Knight’s absence, the Blackhawks recalled goaltender Drew Commesso from Rockford of the AHL, and he’s expected to make his third NHL start of the season Monday. Arvid Soderblom, who started the previous two games, will serve as the backup. Commesso, 23, has a 1-1-0 record with a 2.50 GAA and .917 save percentage in limited action this year.

Knight’s illness comes at a challenging time for the Blackhawks, who sit at 24-32-6 and are looking to build momentum in the final stretch of the 2025-26 season (though some fans are glad to see the team continuing to put themselves in a better potential draft position this offseason). The team was also dealt another injury blow on Saturday as Oliver Moore (day-to-day, undisclosed) went awkwardly into the boards and left the game. He will be unavailable for Monday’s contest.

Acquired from the Florida Panthers in a blockbuster trade last season, Knight has been Chicago’s primary starter this year, posting a 16-18-8 record with three shutouts, a 2.63 GAA, and a .908 save percentage through 42 appearances. However, his performance has dipped since the calendar flipped to 2026, with a .905 save percentage over 15 games and a 1-4-2 mark in his last seven starts.

The Blackhawks aim to snap a three-game skid Monday night without their top netminder. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
