Florida Panthers star Brad Marchand has missed some games this season because of injury. He has only played in 52 games and has scored 27 goals and has recorded 27 assists, along with a plus/minus rating of -16. At 37 years old, his body is starting to slow down.

Marchand had to miss some time before the winter Olympics. He did play for Team Canada for a few games. Now, it appears as if Marchand’s season could very well be in jeopardy with a lower-body injury and there is a chance that he could need surgery on it.

He is not going to suit up for the Panthers on Tuesday night on the road against the Detroit Red Wings. With Florida having a 31-29-3 record with 65 points this season, they are on the verge of missing the playoffs. It might be best to just shut him down for the rest of the season.

Panthers head coach Paul Maurice spoke to reporters on Monday about the latest injury update for Marchand. It appeared as if this is not going to be a short-term situation. Maurice said, “There’s going to be a decision made on what’s the best way to get him to 100 percent full health. I think even if there isn’t [surgery], we’re still talking long-term; like, this isn’t going to be a couple of days. We’re into weeks.

He has been dealing with something for a couple of months, [but] we have been able to maintain it.” They are better off just shutting him down for the season and not risking anything for the long term. Marchand will have five years left on his contract after the 2025-2026 NHL season concludes.

This team has been decimated with injuries this season. This is what happens when teams go to the finals for three straight seasons, wear and tear catches up with everyone. Marchand is a good player, but Maurice cannot risk him playing another game for the rest of the season for his lower-body injury.
