The last time the New York Rangers visited Philadelphia, it was the continuation of a lengthy losing streak that diminished the Philadelphia Flyers‘ playoff hopes. Any slim hope left was dashed in the latest visit on Monday night.
The Rangers scored three goals in the first and three in the second, as the Flyers lost, 6-2, at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
How It Happened
The Rangers opened the scoring just 1:04 into the game. A point shot by Matthew Robertson went off the glove of Dan Vladar and sat in front of the net for Noah Laba to put home for his seventh goal of the season.
The Rangers added to the lead at 13:06 of the first. A lost battle behind the net allowed the Alexis Lafreniere to center for Mika Zibanejad for his 26th goal of the season to make it 2-0. Lafreniere scored his 15th goal of the season on the power play in the final minute of the first to make it 3-0.
The Flyers got on the board with a power-play goal at 3:54 of the second. Matvei Michkov put home a rebound for his 16th goal of the season. The Rangers answered right back with a power-play goal at 6:40, as Gabe Perreault potted his sixth of the season on a rebound.
The Rangers added two more goals late in the period. Zibanejad scored his second of the game on the power play at 18:40. Then Vladislav Gavrikov‘s shot from distance was deflected by Tye Kartye for his fourth goal of the season to make it 6-1 after two periods.
Sean Couturier scored the lone goal of the third period with 5:32 remaining.

⭐ Mika Zibanejad — Two more goals for the Flyers’ killer, who added six goals to his career total against the Flyers this season.
⭐⭐ Gabe Perreault — Won a puck battle behind the net that led to Zibanejad’s first goal, Perreault later added a goal and an assist in the second.
⭐⭐⭐ Alexis Lafreniere — The former first overall pick had a goal and an assist in the first period, which helped set the tone for the final result.
The Takeaway
In a word: ugly. A lot of the Flyers’ bad habits were on full display. Poor special teams play, poor puck management, lost battles, and for a change, Dan Vladar didn’t have it to be able to bail them out. It’s not easy to find a performance worse than the Rangers last visit to Philadelphia in January, or the lifeless performance last Thursday before the trade deadline. Somehow, the Flyers topped both with one of their worst games of the season.
