For Marner to return, the numbers would have to work, but given he is reportedly seeking to be the highest paid winger, and for a short time, highest paid player, that seems unlikely.

Former NHLer and current analyst Paul Bissonnette discussed a possible return to Toronto for the former first-round pick on Tuesday’s edition of ‘Spittin’ Chiclets’ where he revealed the absolute maximum amount he would give Marner which would be considered a massive discount on Marner’s end, but may save his legacy with the Maple Leafs.

“I would offer Marner 8x$12M, take it or leave it and I would consider rolling it back and bringing JT if he is willing to take a home-town discount.”
