In a little morsel of a trade, the Detroit Red Wings sent Elmer Söderblom to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the San Jose Sharks‘ 2026 third-round pick on Friday, March 6, the day of the trade deadline.
Söderblom had been a healthy scratch of late, unable to gain a foothold in the lineup.
The 6 foot 8 Swede has three points in 39 games this season, and 22 points in 86 career games with the Wings.

He was drafted in the sixth round in 2019 and made his NHL debut on Oct. 14, 2022, scoring a goal in his first game.

Söderblom did not play for the Wings in the 2023-24 season, then played in 65 games combined over the last two years.
The trade of Söderblom is the Wings’ second move at the deadline after acquiring former Red Wing David Perron from the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, March 5, for a conditional fourth-round pick.
