Sturm was part of the Joe Thornton trade that took place nearly 20 years ago and played parts of five seasons in Boston before being traded to the LA Kings in 2010 and having a 17-game stint with the franchise. Sturm was named head coach of the Reign on June 17, 2022, and compiled a record of 120-82-11-3 in three seasons. The Reign also reached the playoffs every year when he was at the helm and went 5-7 in those three years combined.

Sturm also guided the German national team to a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics and served as an assistant coach behind the Kings’ bench for four seasons (2018-22) before being named head coach of the Reign.

I always appreciated Sturm’s genuine kindness whenever he answered my questions during his postgame media availabilities over the last two seasons. I wish him nothing but success in Boston. As for who will be the next head coach of the Reign, we will find out.
