A former Vancouver Canucks forward has been named the next Head Coach of the Boston Bruins, with a formal announcement from the team expected on Wednesday.

As the offseason continue for the majority of the National Hockey League’s 32 teams, some franchises are making some big changes behind the bench, with three organizations still searching for their next Head Coach.

On Tuesday afternoon, there were just three teams still looking for their next bench boss and it looks like we’re officially down to two as the Boston Bruins have reportedly found their new Head Coachreplacing Joe Sacco, who was in an interim role since late November.

Former Vancouver Canucks forward Marco Sturm named Boston Bruins Head Coach

This afternoon, reports circulated regarding the Boston Bruins and candidates for their Head Coaching role, with Marco Sturm and Jay Woodcroft named as front-runners for the gig.

“Sounds like the Bruins are in the final stage of their Head Coach search this week. Both Marco Sturm and Jay Woodcroft are among the remaining contenders for the job; Woodcroft had his latest follow-up interview the other day.” Pagnotta said.

Just hours later, it looks like the Boston Bruins have decided who will become the 30th Head Coach in franchise later, as Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects is reporting that Marco Sturm will be named bench boss of the Original Six franchise.

“Hearing Marco Sturm is set to become the next Boston Bruins head coach.” Robinson said.

Sturm, a native of Dingolfing, Germany, spent 14 seasons as a player in the National Hockey League with the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Washington Capitals, Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers, registering 487 points in 938 games.

A couple years after retiring, Sturm turned his attention to coaching and spent three seasons with the German National Team, leading them to an Olympic silver medal in 2018, before returning to North America to join the Los Angeles Kings organization.

After three seasons as the Head Coach of the American Hockey League’s Ontario Reign, Sturm, who was reportedly a candidate for the Vancouver Canucks’ job, will finally get his first crack at being a bench boss in the National Hockey League with one of the oldest and most historic franchises.

The Boston Bruins have yet to officially comment on the news, but as mentioned, it’s expected that a formal announcement will likely be made by the organization at some point on Wednesday.
