After plenty of speculation, rumors, and what if’s, the Chicago Blackhawks have officially signed prospect Sacha Boisvert to an entry-level contract.
Perhaps the worst kept secret in Chicago Blackhawks circles over the last week or so, prospect Sacha Boisvert is officially under contract. Over the weekend, rumors and reports swirled suggesting he was on his way to Chicago to sign with the club. On Monday morning, the organization made it official and notified the public.
Boisvert notably struggled at Boston University this season, but he wasn’t alone. The entire team had a rough go and they ended up having their worst season in over 10 years for the program. Regardless, fans knew Boisvert was going to turn pro, and now the anticipation builds for the remainder of the season and beyond.
Where Does Sacha Boisvert Fit in the Blackhawks’ Lineup?
Now that Boisvert is under contract, where will he find himself in the lineup? Frankly, before Oliver Moore’s injury, the fourth line center spot was the only position that made a lot of sense. However, Moore’s absence from the lineup now allows Boisvert to potentially slot in on the third line in place of Ryan Donato, who can then easily bump out to the wing.
Make no mistake, Boisvert isn’t simply a shoe-in to the everyday lineup down the stretch. Jeff Blashill will make him earn his keep, as we’ve seen with Nick Lardis since his return from Rockford. If Boisvert isn’t playing well, the fourth line is likely where he will end up as well. However, if Boisvert channels his gritty, two-way style of play to fruition, he will get ample opportunity from Blashill.

Remember, the Canadian-born forward will need a work visa in order to suit up with the team. That means he likely won’t debut until later this week. Perhaps a debut in front of the home faithful will be on the docket. The Blackhawks host the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night after a home-and-home with the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday and Thursday.
