St. Croix Valley Fusion senior forward Morgan Kivel, and Western Wisconsin Stars senior defenseman Sophia Johnson, headline a list of six area players named to the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association All-State Team and 16 named to All-Big Rivers Conference teams for the 2025-26 seasons.
Kivel and senior teammate Eleanor Adams, along with Hudson senior Erin Madigan, were banned to the WHCA All-State Second Team, while Sophia Johnson, Stars’ junior Izzy Johnson and Fusion junior Jane Volgren received honorable mention.
Kivel, who earned all-state honorable mention a year ago, led the Fusion in scoring with 33 points, tenth most in the state, with 17 goals and 16 assists. She averaged 1.38 points per game, while totaling 14 points in the Fusion’s eight conference games.
Sophia Johnson received all-state honorable mention for the second straight season while recording a team-high 13 assists from her blue line position, including six on the power play, and scoring three goals.
Adams racked up 20 points in 24 games, including eight goals, while helping to anchor a Fusion defense that allowed just 1.37 goals per game this season to earn a spot on the all-state second team, while Hudson’s Madigan earned all-state second team honors after accumulating 16 points, including five goals and a team-high four power play assists, from her position on defense.
Volgren scored a team-high 18 goals for the Fusion in the regular season, before adding nine more in the state runner-up Fusion’s four postseason games. She led the team with six power play goals, fourth most in the state, while scoring six game winning goals, tied for second in the state.
Izzy Johnson finished second on the Stars in scoring with 17 goals, including a league-leading nine goals in eight conference games, to earn honorable mention to the all-state team.
Kivel, Adams, Sophia Johnson and Izzy Johnson also earned four of the six spots on the 2025-26 All-Big Rivers Conference First Team. It’s the third All-BRC honor for Kivel, who was named to the second team the past two seasons, and the first for Adams, while Sophia Johnson and Izzy Johnson are both repeat selections to the first team.
Volgren was joined by junior Fusion teammates Katelynn Gustafson and Lilly Mittl on the All-BRC Second Team, along with Hudson’s Madigan and Stars’ junior Chloe Julson.
Gustafson, a repeat second team selection, started all 24 games in goal for St. Croix Valley while posting a 1.37 goals against average and .942 saves percentage with nine shutouts, while Mittl tallied 15 goals and 16 assists, with five of her goals game-winners and five of her assists on the power play.
Julson, a second team All-BRC pick as a freshman in 2024, recorded 11 goals and eight assists to finish as the Stars’ third-leading scorer this season.
Fusion freshman forward Jenna Volgren, Fusion senior defenseman Oaklie Holldorf, Stars senior forward Ashley Jensen, Stars senior goalie Sierra Andert, Hudson junior forward Marley Larson, Hudson sophomore forward Laura Johnson, and Hudson senior defenseman Julianna Cahoon all received honorable mention to this year’s All-BRC Team.
St. Croix Valley assistant coach Jon Zevenbergen was named the 2025-26 WHCA Assistant Coach of the Year. Zevenbergen has been a member of the Fusion staff for the past 13 years and is the coordinator of the annual Junior Varsity Tournament held in Baldwin each February.
