Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar now sits on top of the Kings list for all-time points after setting the record on March 14, 2026, against the New Jersey Devils. Kopitar is now in elite company, ranking first in points by a Los Angeles hockey player.
On Saturday, Kopitar scored a power-play goal against Devils goaltender Jake Allen. he then got the record the same way, with a power-play goal in the third period of a 6-4 Kings loss. Those two power-play goals give Kopitar 129 goals on the man advantage in his career. Kopitar passed Hockey Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne for points in a Kings uniform, likely a record that will not be touched for the foreseeable future.
Kopitar was a first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. From the moment he made his NHL debut, he has been nothing short of consistent performance in both game play and leadership. He recently reached 1,500 games played, becoming the 25th player in NHL history to do so.
Kopitar has had a storied career that should land him in the Hockey Hall of Fame with no questions asked. His resume speaks for itself. Five all-star games. Two Selke Trophies for best defensive forward. Three Lady Byng Memorial Trophies for the player who has exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability. Two Stanley Cups (2012, 2014), and one Mark Messier Leadership Award.
While he is one of the more respected players in the league, he keeps to himself and has a quiet aura about him. He means business when the jersey goes on and he does not have to say much to get his point across. His status speaks for itself and this is another honor that he hangs proudly, proving hard work does pay off. For his career, Kopitar has 1,309 points (450 goals and 859 assists), a 53.8% winning faceoff percentage, and is a +123 in 1,506 NHL games, all with the Kings.
Los Angeles will honor Kopitar’s milestone with a pre-game ceremony on April 2, 2026 against the Nashville Predators. This will surely be a game that Kings fans will not want to miss. Kopitar will go down as the greatest player to ever wear a Kings sweater. He is not the same player he once was but he can still produce offense and carry this team on his back. Truly one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of hockey skates.
