1. Businesses hoping for boost as NCAA tournament descends upon downtown Buffalo

There have been a lot of preparations, with local businesses excited for the bump in business. With restaurant and brewery guides, even some tournament discounts going on, the hope is to give people plenty to do, whether they are coming in from near or far.

2. Former UB men’s basketball player admits to role in betting scandal

Isaiah Adams has pleaded guilty to a charge of bribery in sporting contents. The charge carries a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison. He and former Bulls guard Shawn Fulcher were both listed in indictments earlier this year. 

3. Luukkonen records first shutout of season as Sabres beat Vegas 2-0

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 27 saves to record his first shutout of the season and the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 2-0 on Tuesday night. Josh Doan and Josh Norris scored for Buffalo, while Luukkonen registered the eighth shutout of his career.

4. DEC reveals plans to restock Ischua Creek after major fish die-off

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation has released plans to restock trout into Ischua Creek after a discharge that resulted in a massive fish and wildlife die-off last August. 

5. Prison staff intercepted package of weapons, contraband delivered by drone, DOCCS says

New York State Police are investigating a recent incident in which a drone dropped a package filled with knives and other contraband inside a secure area of the Marcy Correctional Facility, the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision revealed Wednesday.

6. Federal Reserve projects one rate cut this year, sees limited economic impact from Iran war

For now, Fed policymakers left short-term interest rates unchanged Wednesday for the second straight meeting at about 3.6%. In a statement, the central bank said that the “implications of developments in the Middle East for the U.S. economy are uncertain.”
