Forward Avery Hayes has been reassigned by the Pittsburgh Penguins to their AHL affiliate team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The move comes after Sidney Crosby was activated from injured reserve for yesterday’s (Wednesday) loss to the Hurricanes, bringing Pittsburgh up to 16 forwards on the active roster. With that excess in forwards, Pittsburgh made the move to send the waiver-exempt Hayes to the AHL.

Hayes is known for having a memorable debut on Feb. 5 (day before the Olympic break) against Buffalo where he scored two goals.

When the season resumed for the Penguins on Feb. 26, Hayes rejoined the lineup for 10 more games but did not register a point, but did get 13 shots on goal.
