With a 1-3 loss to the Predators Thursday night in Nashville, the Seattle Kraken have fallen out of playoff contention.  They currently sit at 71 points, just a single point behind the Los Angeles Kings who have assumed the second Wild Card spot for the Western Conference.

While the fall is disappointing, the team still has plenty of opportunity to move back up in the rankings.  With 13 games remaining in the regular season, there are a possible 26 points still on the table.  The Pacific Division is a tight race this season; only 28 points separate the first-ranked Anaheim Ducks from the last-ranked Vancouver Canucks.

As for the match up with Nashville, Freddy Gaudreau scored the lone Kraken goal with assists from Chandler Stephenson and Kaapo Kakko.  By the numbers, the teams were evenly matched: The Kraken took 53.7% of the face offs to Nashville’s 46.3%, shots were 26-27, giveaways and takeaways within one.  Unfortunately, the Kraken failed to find the back of the net.

Nashville goaltender Justus Annunen ended the night with a .962 save percentage and took home first star honors.  Goals from Ryan Ufko, Ryan O’Reilly (power play), and Filip Forsberg (empty net) gave Nashville the edge to take home two points.  They are now tied with the Kraken at 71 points on the season.

The Kraken now head to Florida where they will face the Panthers on the 24th.  If they are able to repeat their performance against Florida on the 15th, it is possible they will skate away victorious.
