WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. — A well-known sports reporter who covered the Minnesota Wild has been identified as one of the victims in a fatal house fire early Saturday morning.
Authorities say 37-year-old Jessi Pierce, her three children, and the family’s dog died in the fire. According to the White Bear Lake Fire Department, crews were dispatched just before 5:30 a.m. to a home in the 2100 block of Richard Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames. Crews attempted to suppress the fire, but were unable to save those inside.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Pierce was a respected figure in Minnesota’s hockey community, known for her coverage of the Minnesota Wild and the National Hockey League.
In a statement, the Minnesota Wild organization expressed its grief:
“The Minnesota Wild organization is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Jessi Pierce and her children. Jessi was a kind, compassionate person that cared deeply about her family and those around her. She served as a dedicated ambassador for the game of hockey during her time covering the Wild and the NHL. Jessi and her children will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to their family, friends, and all who knew and loved them.”
Pierce also co-hosted the podcast The Bardown Beauties with Kristen Krull, who shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, describing Pierce as “like another big sister” with “an unmatched work ethic and a huge heart.”
Krull added that Pierce was “the best mom” who loved her children and family fiercely.
The tragedy has left the local sports community and beyond mourning the loss of a beloved journalist, mother, and friend.
A Go-Fund-Me has been set up to support Mike, husband to Jessi and father of their children.
The funds will help cover funeral expenses and provide financial support for the family during this period of grief.
