The Philadelphia Flyers have officially announced that they have signed forward Alex Ciernik to a three-year entry-level contract on Monday.
Ciernik, 21, was selected 120th overall in the fourth round of the 2023 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. He becomes the sixth player from that draft class to sign an ELC, alongside Matvei Michkov, Oliver Bonk, Denver Barkey, and recent signings Cole Knuble and Noah Powell.
Per Flyers GM Danny Briere, the contract kicks in at the start of the 2026-27 season.
Ciernik is a speedy winger whose best skill set is his scoring ability. He is very much an offensive-minded player. The defensive and checking aspects of Ciernik’s game have yet to really find their footing.
The Flyers list Ciernik as a 6’0″, 183-pound winger.
Ciernik spent time in Finland this season, playing for the Lahti Pelicans in Liiga, Finland’s top league. In 19 games there, he tallied a goal and 2 assists for 3 total points. Cirenik also played for Nybro Vikings IF in the HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second-tier league. There, he scored 2 goals and 5 total points in 21 games.
Last season, the Slovakian winger played for Vikings IF, where he set career highs with 11 goals, 12 assists, and 23 total points in 46 games. After his career season, he signed an ATO with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL, where he only played 3 games, tallying an assist.
Instead of signing his ELC, Ciernik signed a one-year deal with the Pelicans in the offseason to return overseas. He was loaned to Nybro during the season.
Now, he’ll have the chance to get his development back on track in the Flyers organization.
Since Ciernik’s contract does not kick in until next season, he does not count against the Flyers’ remaining three contracts this year.
