A Vancouver Canucks target has officially been placed on the National Hockey League’s trade block, leaving General Manager Patrik Allvin with a big decision to make in the coming weeks.
As Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford evaluate their options in the weeks ahead, one player that they’ve been linked to this month has officially hit the trade block.
Minnesota Wild forward Marco Rossi placed on trade block
According to Jimmy Murphy of RG Media, the Minnesota Wild have officially placed restricted free agent forward Marco Rossi on the trade block, with Marco D’Amico adding that talks regarding the Austrian centerman are expected to pick up as early as next week.
“Per @MurphysLaw74 Marco Rossi is very much on the block for the Minnesota Wild, with chatter expected to pick up next week.
Flyers, Sabres, Penguins and Blackhawks are among the teams to have already shown interest, with the field expected to expand.” D’Amico said on X.
One National Hockey League executive told Jimmy Murphy that he doesn’t expect Marco Rossi to return to the Minnesota Wild next season, which means that either a trade will happen at some point in June or, if it gets this far, an offer sheet on July 1st.
“At this point, based on conversations I’ve had, I really don’t see him back with the Wild.” an NHL executive source told Jimmy Murphy.
Another executive added, “For whatever reason-I think maybe he just doesn’t fit the Guerin mold-there doesn’t seem to be a fit there in Minnesota. Whatever it is, there’s a market for him right now. I think some teams see him as a real middle-six guy with a lot of upside. He may not be as physical as you’d like, but the skill is there.”
Rossi, 23, is coming off a career-year for the Wild where he set new highs in goals, assists and points, along with a 1:30 increase in average ice time and given where he is in his development, it seems odd that Minnesota wants to move him.
In 82 games, Rossi registered 60 points (24 goals, 36 assists), 26 penalty minutes and was a plus-three, following that up with three points in six contests during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The cost to acquire Marco Rossi will more than likely be pretty high and for the Vancouver Canucks, who are going to add a second line centerman one way or another, they might need to part with their 2025 first round pick, which one insider believes will happen, along with a high-end prospect.
