Head coach Martin St-Louis is making a major decision regarding his lineup for the remainder of the Montreal Canadiens’ season.

No more morning updates confirming which players will suit up.

That decision is unlikely to sit well with the media!

From now on, the coaching staff will keep everything completely secret until the pre-game warmup.

Journalist Priyanta Emrith reported this new strategy this morning following the Canadiens head coach’s press conference.

“Martin St-Louis says he’s not going to disclose his line-up until closer to game time from here on in:

“I feel like we’re in playoff mode right now and I think that’s very typical of playoffs”

It definitely builds excitement for the playoffs, though!

Total mystery sets in: impossible to predict St-Louis’ choices before warmup

This approach forces the opposing team to prepare for multiple different scenarios before the game.

In practical terms, this strategy notably complicates how opponents read injuries for the Canadiens. No one will know in advance if an injured player is returning for a specific game.

The management of the Canadiens’ defensive group also becomes a complete mystery. The usual rotation between Jayden Struble and Arber Xhekaj will no longer be revealed during press conferences.

The head coach refuses to give even the slightest hint about which player will be scratched for a matchup. I actually like reading that, to be completely honest.

We will never know which of Struble or Xhekaj is scratched for the remaining games this season. Fans will have to closely watch warmups to figure out the forward lines and defensive pairings.

This shift shows Martin St-Louis’ intent to maximize every possible competitive edge.

All eyes now turn to Martin St-Louis’ final lineup decisions ahead of tonight’s matchup against the Hurricanes.
