Anton Frondell made his debut and recorded an assist in the Chicago Blackhawks victory of the New York Islanders. Nick Lardis had 3 points in the win

Nick Lardis led the way as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the New York Islanders 4-3 on the road. The Islanders nearly came back from down 4-1 but fell just short.

The Lardy Party:

Online, the Chicago Blackhawks fan base has been clamoring to get rookie forward Nick Lardis into the top 6. With the new addition to the team tonight, the lines got mixed up a bit, and Lardis found himself with Tyler Bertuzzi and Nick Lardis. He made sure to make the most of it. After Matthew Schaefer’s shot was tipped past Arvid Soderblom, Chicago got put on their heels. However, Lardis was able to turn the tide of the game. After Tyler Bertuzzi and Frank Nazar failed to score on a 2-on-1, Bertuzzi found a cutting Lardis to even the score.

Nick Lardis wasn’t done there.  With under 30 ticks on the clock, Lardis worked the puck up to Alex Vlasic, who ripped a shot on net that Tyler Bertuzzi finished.  Lardis final point came on Frank Nazar’s goal in the second. When asked about his new line, Lardis commented

“We’ve been gelling together really well, Bert with the puck battles and Frankie pushing their d back with his speed.”

Anton Frondell: New Kid on the Block

The major headline of tonight’s game came from Europe just one day ago. The 2025 third overall pick made his NHL debut tonight against the man drafted two spots ahead of him, Matthew Schaefer. It wasn’t a pretty start, with Schaefer assisting on a goal during Frondell’s first shift.

Anton quickly rebounded, though. Throughout the night, Frondell used his large stature and skill with his stick to shut down rushes all night against the New York Islanders. For his hard work, he was rewarded with his first career NHL point in his first game.

After recovering the puck in the defensive zone, Frondell skated up past the red line. Quickly, he turned and changed the angle, finding Ilya Mikheyev cutting across the center. Micky finished the chance, giving the Blackhawks the lead and Frondell his first point.

After the game, teammate Frank Nazar commented on Anton Frondell’s performance in his first game, remarking, “He did a really good job, I’m proud of him.”

Arvid Soderblom: Man on a Mission

In the past, Arvid Soderblom’s performance has been questioned by Chicago Blackhawks fans. His inconsistency and lackluster performances were maddening. The past few games, however, “Sodie” has looked like a man possessed.

Over the past three games, Soderblom has a .913 save percentage and has managed to salvage three out of six points in games where Chicago was out of it. Tonight, the Chicago Blackhawks nearly blew their tenth third-period lead, giving up two goals in the third period. However, Arvid Soderblom warded off 21 shots in the final frame alone to save the Blackhawks from the loss.

A New Era:

This season has not been a pretty one for the Chicago Blackhawks. In December, both Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar suffered major injuries, and the team went on a bad stretch that all but eliminated them from playoff contention. However, since the NHL trade deadline, when veterans Nick Foligno, Jason Dickinson, and Connor Murphy were shipped out, the team has had a different energy. Since March 6th, the Chicago Blackhawks are 4-3-3. Anton Frondell and Sacha Boisvert have both joined the team, and the established youngsters have found success. In the last 10 games, Frank Nazar has 11 points, while Connor Bedard has four goals and nine points, and the team has been playing competitive hockey.

On Tap for the Chicago Blackhawks is the first game of a back-to-back. The Hawks travel to Philadelphia to take on Trevor Zegras and the Flyers on Thursday night.
