The NHL has announced another significant correction regarding the Montreal Canadiens’ third goal.

After initially awarding the goal to Cole Caufield, the league has now delivered its final verdict.

It is Juraj Slafkovsky’s goal!

Fans were already celebrating what was supposed to be Caufield’s 45th goal of the season, but not so fast.

The NHL confirmed it was a false alarm after reviewing the video sequence.

Replays clearly showed the puck deflected off Juraj Slafkovsky before beating goaltender Frederik Andersen.

The NHL has therefore officially removed the goal from Cole Caufield and awarded it to the young Slafkovsky.

Will Cole Caufield reach the 50-goal mark this season?

With this decision, Cole Caufield’s total officially drops back to 44 goals for the current campaign.

His 45th goal will have to wait a little longer, slightly slowing his pace in the race for the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy.

However, this change is excellent news for Juraj Slafkovsky’s stat line.

“Juraj Slafkovsky deflected the puck with his leg before it went into the net. His 28th goal of the season.

Caufield’s 45th goal will have to wait.”

He is now approaching 30 goals!

The powerful forward was once again perfectly positioned near the opposing net, creating chaos and capitalizing on his effort.

Clearly, the league’s official scorers have had plenty of corrections to make tonight at the Bell Centre.

Indeed, earlier in the game, a similar mistake was made regarding the identity of the Hurricanes’ goal scorer.

Cole Caufield will certainly have other opportunities to light the lamp before the end of the season.

Still a big goal nonetheless!
