Logan O’Connor finally made his long-awaited season debut for the Avalanche. With a perfect road trip so far, and a stumbling Dallas Stars, it’s been a great week for the Avs. Also, the Ottawa Senators make a statement at Little Caesars Arena.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — March 25.

Colorado Hockey Now

Welcome back to The Mayor. O’Connor missed the first 69 games of the season before slotting in and playing more than 15 minutes on Tuesday. Along with Ross Colton, the duo gave the Avalanche a solid forward group on their way to a four-goal triumph over the Pens.

O’Connor’s return was just the latest in a long list of things that are slowly coming together for the Avalanche as the Stanley Cup playoffs get closer.

Around The NHL

Ottawa Hockey Now: The Senators played on Monday, lost Thomas Chabot to injury, and came to Detroit on the second night of a back-to-back. They still won in regulation, and they dropped the Wings down to 10th in the East. It was a statement victory.

Detroit Hockey Now: Dylan Larkin’s return didn’t quite spark the Red Wings enough.

New Jersey Hockey Now: The Dallas Stars were winning pretty much every game over a 15-game stretch. The only one they didn’t win was a shootout loss to Colorado. After falling to the Devils on Tuesday, the Stars fell to 1-3-1 in their last five games, and that lone victory was against the Avs. Colorado is now seven points ahead in the Central Division. It was only two points a week ago.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: At Ball Arena, Sidney Crosby was out but Evgeni Malkin took over. In the rematch, Crosby played, but Malkin did not.

San Jose Hockey Now: The Sharks keep falling, and now their playoff hopes are hanging by a thread following this latest loss.
