The New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs could be ideal trade partners following an interesting report involving skilled RFA defenseman.

This year’s off-season is already off to an interesting start with reports that several young stars are on the chopping block and we’ve yet to finish out the 2024-25 season.

The most recent report coming from Elliotte Friedman touches on New York Rangers defenseman K’Andre Miller and the organization testing his market with his restricted free agency tag looming.

With just $8.4 million in cap space and a laundry list of RFAs to deal with as well as glaring holes in the lineup, they might not be able to afford Miller’s contract demands. It was a bit of a down season for the 25-year-old who scored 7 goals and 27 points in 74 games, held an even rating, and averaged 21:57 TOI.

Even though Miller is one of the top defensemen on the club, the Rangers are expected to make changes after their disappointing 2024-25 campaign. They should be attempting to shore up the forward corps and that’s where the Toronto Maple Leafs can step in.

Why the Toronto Maple Leafs Would Make the Perfect Trade Partner For the New York Rangers

Nicholas Robertson and the Maple Leafs haven’t necessarily been on the same page in recent years and despite the former having requested a trade last summer, the Leafs decided not to cave and allowed him to fight for a roster spot.He had done a good enough job near the end of the season to beat out Max Pacioretty for a playoff spot but eventually lost out when Craig Berube felt the team needed more jam. Now with another contract needed, the Leafs could look to finally move him for the right deal. The Rangers need offensive help as they were generally stale outside of Artemi Panarin, and while Robertson hasn’t lit up the scoresheet in Toronto, a change of scenery could do him wonders with newly minted head coach Mike Sullivan looking to implement more offense.Miller on the other hand would help shore up the Leafs back-end, especially if they finally move off on Morgan Rielly, and it gives them another young puck moving defenseman they desperately need.

It’s a trade that makes sense on paper for both clubs and should the Rangers seriously be considering a trade, the Maple Leafs better pick up the phone as soon as possible.
