Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: The NCAA Tournament is set to begin, as are the CHL playoffs. Philadelphia has 12 prospects in their respective postseasons. So, let’s take a look at which Flyers’ prospects are gearing up for the postseason, and what may come next.
Speaking of postseason prospects, Porter Martone and the Michigan State Spartans are eyeing the program’s 4th national title. Earlier in the year, we met with Martone to discuss his last year, including his learning experiences, the relationships he built, and more.
Sticking with the prospects theme, the Flyers have signed another prospect to an ELC. Earlier in the week, the Flyers officially signed the sixth member of their 2023 draft class, Alex Ciernik.
The last time the Flyers took the ice, it was a must-win game. They did not rise to the occasion, falling under the bright lights of a big game. What led to the loss? Was it execution, was it special teams, or was it just a bad five-minute stretch?
Nikita Grebenkin missed Wednesday’s practice due to injury. His status for Thursday remains in question as the Flyers are set to face the Chicago Blackhawks.
The playoff race, and where the Flyers stand
Let’s take a look at the updated Eastern Conference standings.

Since the last time we looked at the standings, the Blue Jackets have now grabbed hold of the 2nd spot in the Metro. The Ottawa Senators have taken the second spot in the Wild Card, the Bruins have given themselves some cushion as the top team in the Wild Card, and the Islanders and Red Wings have fallen out of the hunt.
With 12 games to go, the Flyers are 5 points out of the Wild Card and 6 points out of the last spot of the Metropolitan division. They’re not quite out just yet, but their task is anything but easy. The odds are stacked against them. MoneyPuck gives the Flyers an 8.7% chance to make the postseason, the 10th lowest in the league.
The Flyers have a favorable matchup vs. the Blackhawks on Thursday, and it could be a chance to make up some ground. Let’s look at the next game for the teams the Flyers are competing against.
Games to watch in the playoff race:
Blue Jackets (87, M2) @ Canadiens – 7:00 pm EST
Penguins (86, M3) @ Senators (85, WC2) – 7:00 pm EST
Stars @ Islanders (85, WC3) – 7:00 pm EST
Blackhawks @ Flyers (80, WC5) – 7:00 pm EST
Capitals (79, WC6) @ Mammoth – 9:00 pm EST
NHL Rumors & News
TSN: Craig Button tends to be spot on when it comes to his early draft analysis. On the latest Craig’s List, he breaks down just why Penn State superstar Gavin McKenna has strengthened his hold as the No. 1 prospect. My favorite quote from Button: “He couldn’t have had the second half without the first half.”
Check out the latest Craig’s List.
For whatever it’s worth, centers 4-6 on his list fall in the range the Flyers are expected to pick.
Sportsnet: Some heartwarming news. Buffalo Sabres’ defenseman Rasmus Dahlin’s fiance Carolina Matovac attended her first Sabres game since her heart failed over the summer. She was honored at the game in Buffalo.
Beautiful moment as Rasmus Dahlin’s fiancé, Carolina, was honored after returning to Buffalo. 👏👏👏
She had underwent a heart transplant surgery a couple months ago and was previously recovering in Sweden. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/ySCzUeHpsZ

Detroit Hockey Now: Once a team the Flyers were chasing, the Detroit Red Wings have fallen from second in the Atlantic to now out of a playoff spot. The Flyers still have three games against Detroit left before the season ends, but it may be moot. Bob Duff writes why the Red Wings’ slide is worse than you thought.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Let’s check in on another team the Flyers may or may not be chasing: the Pittsburgh Penguins. They recently fell 5-2 vs. the Colorado Avalanche, and have fallen to third in the Metropolitan Division. Was the beating from Colorado a message sent by the league?
