Carter Gylander posted 28 saves to spark the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 5-2 win against the Cleveland Monsters that clinched their first division title since 2014-15.
The Griffins called up Gylander Thursday from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye after the Detroit Red Wings recalled Michal Postava to replace injured Cam Talbot. The Red Wings, now three points out of a playoff spot, are in Buffalo tonight.
Gylander is now 7-0-1 in Grand Rapids this season and owns a seven-game AHL winning streak.
Carter Mazur scored twice in the game, giving him 11 goals and 15 points in 14 AHL games this season. Eduards Tralmaks scored his 21st goal of the season. Wojciech Stachowiak, recently acquired in a trade, registered a goal and two assists for his first Griffins points. Defenseman Shai Buium also scored, and Axel Sandin-Pellikka added an assist.
