This week has been busy in Philadelphia sports with the 76ers and Flyers keeping their fans hoping that their teams can make a playoff run this season.
The Sixers were rejuvenated on Wednesday night with the return of two of their biggest stars, Joel Embiid and Paul George. The Sixers beat the Chicago Bulls in a wild 157-137 game in which both Embiid and George led the team in scoring and looked good in doing so. When Tyrese Maxey returns, as long as Embiid and George stay healthy, the Sixers have a puncher’s chance of making a run in the NBA playoffs.
The Flyers have stayed alive in the playoff race thanks to a big win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. After a disappointing 3-2 loss to the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, the 5-1 victory over the Blackhawks showed the Orange and the Black still have life. There are 11 games left in the regular season, the Flyers are five points out of the final Eastern Conference Wild Card spot. The Flyers still have a chance at the playoffs, and Head Coach Rick Tocchet has the team playing hard down the stretch.
It was a beautiful day on Thursday and the Phillies took advantage of it on opening day at Citizens Bank Park. Phillies opening day starter Cristopher Sanchez, who finished second in last year’s Cy Young award voting, did not disappoint. Sanchez went six innings while striking out 10 and got his first opening day win 5-3.
