Igor Chernyshov scored twice, including the game-winning goal in the third period and the San Jose Sharks beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.
At 18:35 of the third period, Will Smith found Chernyshov at the left of the goal and his one-timer beat CBJ goalie Elvis Merzlikins.
Macklin Celebrini also scored for the Sharks and added an assist. San Jose snapped a six game losing streak (0-5-1). Alex Nedeljkovic made 21 saves and kept his team in it early.
Denton Mateychuk and Cole Sillinger scored for the Blue Jackets who have lost two straight and three of four. Elvis Merzlikins made 33 saves.
The San Jose Sharks didn’t start off great, as they gave up a goal just over 30 seconds into the game. After getting through a strong start by CBJ, the Sharks pushed back.
Defenseman John Klingberg (lower body) and goalie Yaroslav Askarov (upper body) didn’t dress due to injuries.
Will Smith had two assists in what was his best game in quite some time.
Mateychuk put the Blue Jackets up 1-0 31 seconds into the first period. After William Eklund turned the puck over, Adam Fantilli found Mateychuk at the point, who then walked in and beat Nedeljkovic over the glove.
Chernyshov tied the game 1-1 at 17:17. The Sharks winger walked into the slot after dropping a pass to Will Smith, and then fired a one-time shot by a defenseman and over Merzlikins blocker.
Sillinger gave the Jackets the 2-1 lead at 12:09 the second period. Ivan Provorov found Sillinger in the slot and his one timer beat Nedeljkovic through the body.
Celebrini tied the game at two with a power-play goal 57 seconds into the third period. After a clean face-off win, Dmitry Orlov slid a pass to Celebrini and his one-timer went post and in behind Merzlikins.
