The Boston Bruins signed goaltender Max Lundgren to a one-year entry-level contract for the 2026-27 season, the team announced on Sunday, adding another goalie to the organization’s pipeline.

The contract comes with a cap hit of $952,500.

Lundgren, 23, went 21-16-2 with Merrimack this season. He posted a 2.55 goals against average, .920 save percentage, and a 17.40 goals saved above expected, which is eighth in the country. He led all NCAA goalies in saves with 1,134, and his 21 wins were the most in the Hockey East.

The 6-foot-5 goalie played every minute of Merrimack’s 39-game schedule this season.

He led Merrimack to the program’s first Hockey East title in March, leading the 8-seed Warriors to upset wins over the 1-seed Providence, 2-seed UMass, and 3-seed UConn. After Merrimack’s win, he was named tournament MVP.

He made 25 saves and allowed two goals in Merrimack’s NCAA tournament loss to North Dakota.

He played two seasons at Merrimack and finished with a 29-29-2 record.

Lundgren is a native of Angelholm, Sweden. He spent his childhood years with Rogle BK and played with the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) for one year before landing at Merrimack.

Lundgren joins a Bruins’ goaltending room consisting of Jeremy Swayman, Joonas Korpisalo, Michael DiPietro, Simon Zajicek, and Luke Cavallin. The Bruins also have a prospect who is graduating from Providence College, Phillip Svedebäck

Zajicek and Cavallin each signed one-year entry-level deals with the Bruins last season, while Svedebäck does not have a contract.

Lundgren is the Bruins’ second collegiate signing of the 2025-26 campaign, only after James Hagens, and more are expected as Don Sweeney and Co. evaluate more college players and prospects.

The Bruins did not announce immediate plans for Lundgren, as his contract does not begin until next season. He told Mark Divver that he will be at Development Camp this summer.
