Another week, another new and exciting update from the soon-to-be home of the Calgary Flames.
The progress being made on Scotia Place has been quite remarkable, as fans who have driven past as of late can attest. The vast majority of the building is now well above ground and gives fans somewhat of an idea as to what it will look like upon completion.

This building, as put by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, is going to be a “spectacular, first-class, state-of-the-art arena.” It will have plenty of amenities including a 1,000-seat community arena, four restaurants, indoor and outdoor plazas, flex washrooms, dedicated quiet rooms, and much, much more.
When construction first began back in July 2024, the goal was to have the building ready in time for the 2027-28 season. It seems so far that their goal is well within reach, especially after another exciting update provided on Friday.
Friday’s update confirmed that the roof of Scotia Place is now being put in.
“It really signifies an important stage of construction in terms of when we start to put the roof structure in place to enclose the building,” said CANA president Fabrizio Carinelli.
“It’s a big milestone that has [taken] months of planning of work by a lot of team members. It was really a big moment for the project.”
Carinelli explained that one of the key aspects of putting the roof together is to make sure the score clock can nest into the structure, keeping it out of sight for concerts. Doing so will help create a better viewing experience for any and all visiting the building.
With summer quickly approaching, construction crews will have better weather and more daylight to continue working on this highly anticipated arena. Their hard work has already allowed Calgary to be named a host city for the 2028 World Cup of Hockey, and will allow for plenty of other big events in the years to come.
