James Hagens arrived, and now that he has played a pro game with the Bruins, he cannot go back to college.

The Bruins’ seventh-overall pick made his presence felt in Providence. He picked up a goal and an assist in his first three games, but even in a loss, the P-Bruins bench boss had positive things to say. 

Hagens’ World Junior Championship teammate, Will Zellers, is on his way to Las Vegas for the Frozen Four – he is the only Bruins’ prospect still in the NCAA tournament. 

The other five bowed out, but some still got on the board in the NCAA regional round. 

The Bruins’ minor league affiliates are both booked for the playoffs. The Providence Bruins won two of three, but are still on top of the AHL, and the Maine Mariners swept the weekend, picked up four more points, and a spot in the playoffs.

Here’s how the rest of the Bruins’ prospects are performing this season:

NCAA

Forwards

Andre Gasseau, Boston College: GP: 23, G: 6, A: 17, Pts: 23; +/-: -2, PIM: 12

BC’s season ended during the Hockey East tournament. The Bruins have until August 15, 2026, to sign the BC captain. 

However, Mark Divver reported that there was “no comment” from P-Bruins GM Evan Gold when asked about Gasseau’s contract negotiations.

Beckett Hendrickson, Minnesota: GP: 36, G: 7, A: 13, Pts: 20; +/-: +5, PIM: 18

Hendrickson’s season ended in the Big 10 tournament. For the first time since 2019, the Golden Gophers missed the NCAA tournament.

Brett Larson is the new coach at Minnesota. 

Oskar Jellvik, Boston College: GP: 9, G: 2, A: 1, Pts: 3; +/-: -5, PIM: 4

The Bruins have until August 15, 2026, to sign Jellvik.

Dean Letourneau, Boston College: GP: 36, G: 22, A: 17, Pts: 39; +/-: +9, PIM: 22

Don Sweeney mentioned that Letourneau’s path includes college for another year. 

“Our initial conversation is that he’ll be returning,” Don Sweeney said on Tuesday. “If that changes between now and some time in the future, we can revisit it, but at this point in time, the indications are that he’s going to go back.”

Will Moore, Boston College: GP: 33, G: 4, A: 6, Pts: 10; +/-: -6, PIM: 0

Jonathan Morello, Boston University: GP: 36, G: 6, A: 7, Pts: 13; +/-: +6, PIM: 18

Morello’s season came to a close in the Hockey East quarterfinals with a loss to UConn. 

Casper Nässén, Miami (OH): GP: 36, G: 6, A: 12, Pts: 18; +/-: -5, PIM: 6

Nässén’s sophomore season ended after a loss to Denver in the first round of the NCHC tournament. 

Chris Pelosi, Quinnipiac: GP: 35, G: 18, A: 16, Pts: 34; +/-: +5, PIM: 12

Pelosi and the Bobcats played against Providence, and Pelosi got on the scoresheet. He scored a breakaway goal in Quinnipiac’s 5-2 win. 

Quinnipiac’s season ended in the regional final with a loss to North Dakota. 

Cole Spicer, Western Michigan: GP: 13, G: 3, A: 3, Pts: 6; +/-: +6, PIM: 6

Spicer picked up an assist during WMU’s 3-1 win over Minnesota State on Thursday. They fell to Denver two nights later, which ended their season. 

Ryan Walsh, Cornell: GP: 33, G: 10, A: 23, Pts: 33; +/-: +6, PIM: 33

Cornell was shut out in the regional semifinal against Denver on Friday. Walsh finished with 33 points in 33 games this season as the Cornell captain. 

Will Zellers, North Dakota: GP: 37, G: 18, A: 16, Pts: 34; +/-: +3, PIM: 29

Zellers is off to Las Vegas for the Frozen Four. He recorded two assists in each of North Dakota’s two tournament wins, and he now has nine multi-point nights this season.

North Dakota will play Wisconsin on Thursday in the Frozen Four (5:00 PM, ESPN2). If they win, they will play at 5:30 PM on Saturday (ESPN). 

Defensemen

Elliott Groenewold, Quinnipiac: GP: 40, G: 7, A: 13, Pts: 20; +/-: +39, PIM: 22

Groenewold opened the scoring for Quinnipiac at the NCAA tournament, scoring from the blue line in their first game against Providence. 

Groenewold’s plus-39 rating is the highest in college hockey. 

Kristian Kostadinski, Boston College: GP: 34, G: 0, A: 3, Pts: 3; +/-: +5, PIM: 2

Mason Langenbrunner, Harvard: GP: 32, G: 2, A: 8, Pts: 10; +/-: -5, PIM: 16

The Bruins have until August 15, 2026, to sign Langenbrunner. 

Goaltenders

Max Lundgren, Merrimack: GP: 39, Record: 21-16-2; GAA: 2.55, SV%: .920

The Bruins signed the Hockey East tournament MVP to an entry-level contract for the 2026-27 season. He played every minute of Merrimack’s season this year, which concluded at the NCAA tournament. 

Phillip Svedebäck, Providence: GP: 18, Record: 8-6-2; GAA: 2.32, SV%: .918

Svedebäck’s college hockey career came to a close with Providence’s loss to Quinnipiac. The Bruins have until August 15, 2026, to sign Svedebäck, but they have already added a college goalie to the room.

EUROPE

Forwards

Kirill Yemelyanov, Loko Yaroslavl (RUS-MHL): GP: 56, G: 32, A: 25, Pts: 57; +/-: +39, PIM: 42

Yemelyanov’s 32 goals are tied for the eighth-most in the Russian MHL. Loko finished first in the Western Conference Gold Division and will play JHC Dynamo St. Petersburg in the first round of the playoffs.

Defensemen

Vashek Blanár, HV71 U20 (SWE-Nationell): GP: 35, G: 7, A: 11, Pts: 18; +/-: -7, PIM: 84

Blanár continued to find the back of the net in HV71 U20’s relegation games. He scored twice and picked up an assist in five games played. Blanár will play for Greg Carvel at UMass in the fall.

Liam Pettersson, Växjö U20 (SWE-Nationell): GP: 19, G: 5, A: 6, Pts: 11; +/-: +4, PIM: 8

Växjö U20’s season ended in a best-of-five series with Frölunda U20, 3-2. But Pettersson did not dress in any of the games. 

USHL/CHL

Forwards

Cole Chandler, Shawinigan (QMJHL): GP: 64, G: 20, A: 33, Pts: 53; +/-: +14, PIM: 50

The QMJHL playoffs started last week, and the Cataractes are trailing 2-0 to the Sherbrooke Phoenix after losing both games at home. Chandler picked up an assist this weekend. 

The series continues on Tuesday and Wednesday from Sherbrooke.

Chandler is committed to Northeastern for the 2026-27 season

Cooper Simpson, Youngstown (USHL): GP: 60, G: 34, A: 40, Pts: 74; +/-: +5, PIM: 68

The Phantoms played only one game this weekend, but Simpson turned it into a two-point night. He scored, then later picked up an assist in Youngstown’s 6-2 win over the NTDP.

The USHL regular season comes to a close this weekend. Simpson and the Phantoms play the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday and Saturday night. The Bruins’ third-round pick is committed to North Dakota for the 2026-27 season. 

AHL/ECHL

Forwards

Riley Duran, Providence Bruins: GP: 64, G: 6, A: 12, Pts: 18; +/-: +18, PIM: 22

Duran scored on Sunday night, marking his fifth goal of the month and sixth of the season.  

Alexis Gendron, Providence Bruins: GP: 8, G: 1, A: 2, Pts: 3; +/-: -5, PIM: 2

Gendron had two assists in his return to Allentown, PA, on Wednesday. He later tallied his first goal with the Providence Bruins on Friday in Utica, NY. 

James Hagens, Providence Bruins: GP: 3, G: 1, A: 1, Pts: 2; +/-: -1, PIM: 2

He’s here, kind of. Hagens signed an amateur tryout (ATO) with the Providence Bruins this week. 

He played in all three Providence games this week and scored his first professional goal on Saturday. After Providence’s loss on Sunday, Hagens received praise from Ryan Mougenel, per Mark Divver, and also met with Don Sweeney, per Bridgette Proulx

Dans Ločmelis, Providence Bruins: GP: 43, G: 15, A: 13, Pts: 28; +/-: +16, PIM: 6

Fabian Lysell, Providence Bruins: GP: 53, G: 15, A: 25, Pts: 40; +/-: +12, PIM: 47

Lysell did not play in any of Providence’s three games. He suffered a concussion in a fight two weeks ago. 

Matt Poitras, Providence Bruins: GP: 61, G: 13, A: 31, Pts: 44; +/-: +2, PIM: 42

Poitras’ point streak came to an end at seven games (2-8–10), but he posted four this week for the P-Bruins. He had one assist in Springfield on Wednesday, then three against Bridgeport on Saturday. 

Defensemen

Frédéric Brunet, Providence Bruins: GP: 60, G: 11, A: 19, Pts: 30; +/-: +18, PIM: 30

Brunet did not play this weekend as he is dealing with an upper-body injury.

Ty Gallagher, Providence Bruins: GP: 36, G: 7, A: 12, Pts: 19; +/-: +7, PIM: 21

Gallagher was held off the scoresheet this weekend. He has nine points (3-6–9) in March, and is two weeks removed from a hat trick against Hartford. 

Loke Johansson, Maine Mariners: GP: 33, G: 1, A: 2, Pts: 3; +/-: +3, PIM: 20

Johansson did not play in any of the three Mariners’ games this weekend. 

Max Wanner, Providence Bruins: GP: 23, G: 0, A: 2, Pts: 2; +/-: +9, PIM: 7

Goaltenders

Luke Cavallin, Maine Mariners: GP: 28, Record: 16-7-4; GAA: 2.23, SV%: .921

Cavallin played in Maine’s 6-0 shutout win over the Greensboro Gargoyles (CAR) and made 16 saves. It is Cavallin’s fourth shutout of the season.

He also has a 6-2-0 record with the P-Bruins, along with a 2.47 GAA and a .910 SV%.

Simon Zajicek, Providence Bruins: GP: 18, Record: 12-5-1; GAA: 2.34, SV%: .919

Zajicek started in Providence’s 4-2 loss to Springfield on Sunday. Zajicek made 38 saves in the loss. 

There are 8 games left in the Providence Bruins’ season. They still rank first in the AHL with a 49-14-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record and 99 points. The P-Bruins were the first team in the East and the second team in the league (Grand Rapids) to clinch a playoff spot; they are currently two points ahead of the Griffins. They are in New York this week, first for a game against the Utica Comets (NJD), then the Syracuse Crunch (TBL), and the Rochester Americans (BUF).

Maine has posted a 38-16-6-2 record and ranks fifth in the Eastern Conference. They clinched a spot in the Kelly Cup playoffs. The Mariners won both of their games against the Greensboro Gargoyles this weekend. The Mariners will play four games this coming week, all of them against the Trois-Rivières Lions (MTL).
