Spring is almost back, and so are the Washington Capitals’ special cherry blossom-themed jerseys. This year’s version, revealed today, will be worn by the team during arrivals to their home game against the Ottawa Senators on March 18.
The black-colored jerseys feature pink cherry blossoms bursting from behind the team’s Capitol Building logo and throughout the jersey’s back numbering. They were designed by Taylor Kampa Olson of TKO Paintings, a lifelong local who also designed the franchise’s three previously cherry blossom jerseys.
Olson says this year’s design symbolizes exploring the city during cherry blossom season. “You go to the Tidal Basin and see the monuments in the background, and you get the perfect picture of [the blossoms] hanging in front of the monuments,” she says. “That’s what I wanted to capture this year: being in the city surrounded by all the beautiful flowers.”

The jerseys worn by Caps players before the game will be auctioned off by Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) Foundation. The auction also will include autographed, limited-edition cherry blossom pucks and a TKO painting of Capitals forward Tom Wilson signed by him.
Bidding will open here on March 18 at noon and close at 3 PM on March 27. Proceeds will be given to City Blossoms, a nonprofit focusing on community well-being through creative programming in kid-driven gardens.

Caps-branded cherry blossom merchandise—including apparel, headwear and accessories—is available online and at Capital One Arena and MedStar Capitals Iceplex team stores.
At the game, fans will have the opportunity to add their own cherry blossom-themed designs to an oversized Capitals puck “canvas” in section 105 on the Capital One Arena concourse. The collaborative sculpture will be displayed at The Wharf’s District Square after the game.
The Caps also are teaming up with Sip and Paint DC for a cherry blossom-themed guided painting experience, “Puck & Paint,” during an April 2 home game against the New Jersey Devils.
