Hurricanes fans across the Triangle will have two chances to catch the action on free, over-the-air television as WRAL partners with the Carolina Hurricanes to air two key matchups this week.

The Hurricanes will face the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 2 and the New York Islanders on April 4, bringing the excitement of Hurricanes hockey directly into homes across the region during a critical stretch of the season.

The broadcasts continue WRAL’s “Hockey for the Holidays” initiative, expanding access for fans and making it easy to tune in without a subscription.

The games will air as follows:

Thursday, April 2 at 7 p.m. on WRAL (5.1) – Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Saturday, April 4 at 7 p.m. on WRAL (5.1) – New York Islanders vs. Carolina Hurricanes

“We’re excited to bring Hurricanes hockey to viewers across central North Carolina during such an important point in the season,” said Heather Gray, vice president and general manager of WRAL Media. “These are the kinds of games fans don’t want to miss, and we’re proud to make them easily accessible.”

“We appreciate our continued partnership with WRAL,” said Brian Fork, CEO of Hurricanes Holdings. “These games allow us the opportunity to bring free, over-the-air access to Hurricanes hockey for fans across the Triangle as we again prepare for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.”

The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup championship.

The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Weekend at PNC Arena, as well as the 2023 NHL Stadium Series at Carter-Finley Stadium.
