Two of those teams square off on Tuesday night, with the Tampa Bay Lightning (46-21-6) hosting the Montreal Canadiens (42-21-10) at Benchmark International Arena. Tampa Bay is tied with the Buffalo Sabres for first place in the division with 98 points, but has a game in hand. Montreal sits four points back, having played the same number of games as the Lightning with the one in hand on Buffalo.

The Canadiens had a strong run last week to keep themselves in the race. They’ve won five games in a row and six of their last seven. It’s been a dominant defensive performance leading the way, with the team allowing just eight total goals on the winning streak with just one goal in each of the last three games. Most recently, they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 on Sunday.

That hasn’t helped them close the gap too much though. The Lightning have kept pace, with points in eight games in a row on a 6-0-2 stretch. They swept a back-to-back over the weekend with a 4-2 win over the Ottawa Senators followed by a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators.
