The first goal awarded to the Tampa Bay Lightning against the Montreal Canadiens last night is drawing frustration from observers.
On the ice, the referee chose to ignore an infraction that nonetheless appeared absolutely obvious.
Matt Drake posted the sequence directly on his social media, as seen below, and the footage clearly shows Gage Goncalves illegally holding Noah Dobson with his stick.
A clear and extremely obvious penalty that directly allowed the Lightning to score!
A hook that completely neutralized the Montreal Canadiens player near his own net.
The Tampa Bay Lightning quickly took advantage of that opening to grab the lead in the game.
NHL officials criticized as Tampa Bay goal stands despite clear missed hook
At TVA Sports, journalist Anthony Martineau also called out this unacceptable situation.
According to his analysis, that first goal by Tampa Bay should never have counted.
“The referees in this league have a serious consistency problem.
I think the coach will approve of that one.”
– Anthony Martineau
It could have completely changed the course of the game.
Goncalves with the world’s most obvious hook on Dobson to prevent him from defending.
We’ll allow that despite calling everything else under the sun.
