During the third period, Devils forward Paul Cotter made contact with Shesterkin, which led to a scrum near the goal line.
Shesterkin skated over to the tussle which didn’t sit right with Marksrom, who skated all the way down from the other end of the ice to fight Shesterkin.
The two keepers took off their helmets and exchanged blows.
And Shesterkin came away with the clear win as he got in a flurry of punches and knocked Markstrom on the ice to the delight of the Madison Square Garden crowd.

Markstrom, meanwhile, was last in a fight in 2015 during his AHL days.
The Blueshirts avoided the sweep with their 4-1 victory over New Jersey.
Tuesday’s game was the final game between the Rangers and Devils.
Shesterkin made 22 saves as he took home his 24th win of the year.
It’s been a lost season for the Rangers and Devils as both find themselves at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division.
Nonetheless, it was the Blueshirts’ most feel-good win of the season as the campaign winds down.
And the Rangers avoided going winless against the Devils and the New York Islanders in a season, something the franchise has never done.
