TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Rays division rivals, the New York Yankees, are backing the Rays push to build a new stadium right next to their spring training facility.
Steinbrenner Field is located next to Hillsborough College and Raymond James Stadium.
It wouldn’t go anywhere if the Rays do end up building a stadium in that area.
The Yankees released a statement saying they support the construction of a new ballpark next door as long as it doesn’t impact funding for other sports venues in the area — including theirs.
“Maintaining and enhancing all of our venues in a first-class fashion should remain a priority for ensuring the sustained ascent of Hillsborough County and the greater Tampa Bay region,” the team’s statement.
This isn’t the first time the Yankees have shown support for their rival.
Last year, the Yankees allowed the Rays to re-fashion Steinbrenner Field with Rays signage and play the entirety of the 2025 season there while Tropicana Field was being repaired from the 2024 hurricanes.
