The Colorado Avalanche (49-15-10) conclude their regular-season series against the Dallas Stars (45-19-12). Puck drop is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. MT. and will be nationally broadcast on ABC.
Key Stories to Watch
The season series between the two clubs has been as close as can be. Each team has scored nine goals in three games, with all three contests ending in shootouts. Dallas has won two of them.
The Stars enter the matchup riding a shutout from Jake Oettinger, while the Avs are dealing with a giant question mark between the pipes. Jared Bednar did not share who his starter would be, but it sounds like he’s not giving up on Mackenzie Blackwood. The coach said he told the Avs’ starter to forget about the brutal Vancouver performance and to try to move past it. However, we won’t know who the Avs are starting until the team takes the ice for warm-ups. Scott Wedgewood has been the decisive goalie in two of three games against the Stars, but Blackwood has started twice.
The Avs are shaking up the bottom six, putting Nazem Kadri with Joel Kiviranta and Parker Kelly, while Jack Drury will play with Ross Colton and Logan O’Connor. Bednar said the change was made to help generate more scoring from the Kadri line, as he praised Kelly for unlocking his goal scoring this year. Kelly is one away from 20 goals.
Cale Makar and Nic Roy did not join the Avs on the road, and will not play this weekend.
The Stars got Mikko Rantanen back in the lineup four games ago. He has one goal and four points since, and will play just his second game against the Avs this season.
Dallas is still without the injured Roope Hintz, Tyler Seguin, and Radek Faksa. They also did not have Michael Bunting, Tyler Myers, Sam Steel, or Nathan Bastian in the lineup in their last game, as they are all dealing with different minor ailments. They dressed 11 forwards and seven defensemen against Winnipeg on Thursday.
