The Yankees improved to a commanding 7-1 on the young season with a 9-7 win over the Marlins on Saturday. Giancarlo Stanton drove in two runs with a single and added a stolen base — his first since 2020 — in a performance that will have Yankees fans talking. Miami falls to 5-3 with the loss.

In hockey, the Sabres dropped a 6-2 decision to Washington, with Dmitry Protas returning from injury and finding the scoresheet for the Capitals, who kept their playoff hopes alive with the win. Buffalo sits at 46-23-8 but has now lost ground with the defeat. The NHL’s Bills and Knicks were idle. In AAA ball, the Rochester Red Wings fell 4-3 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in a close one.

On the lacrosse front, it was a rough day for Hobart, who dropped to 2-8 after a 12-6 loss to Delaware. Syracuse fell 14-9 to North Carolina, slipping to 9-3, while Cornell had the region’s best result on the day, cruising to a 16-8 win over Penn to move to 6-3. In MLB, the Blue Jays fell to 4-4 after a 6-3 loss to Chicago, with Murakami and Montgomery going deep for the White Sox.
