After the Philadelphia Flyers handed the New York Islanders their third straight loss, they went down to Carolina and lost once again to the Hurricanes. After four straight losses, Islanders’ GM Matheiu Darche made a shocking coaching change.

Former Dallas Stars head coach Pete DeBoer will take over on Long Island following the Islanders’ dismissal of head coach Patrick Roy.

The move comes with the Islanders at 89 points, currently in a postseason position. They have four games left in the season. Unlike John Tortorella’s hiring in Las Vegas, DeBoer’s new deal will carry over into next season.

The Islanders do not play again until Thursday, so if they were ever going to make the move, now was the time. DeBoer was likely going to be a hot commodity this offseason, so the Islanders got ahead of it and made the switch now.

Maybe the Islanders are looking for a spark to fend off the likes of the Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets, and dare I say the Washington Capitals, as the postseason race will come down to the wire.

The coaching change worked for the Blue Jackets earlier in the year. They surged up the standings after firing Dean Evason and hiring Rick Bowness. The coaching change sparked an unbelievable run.

However, they too have found some chaos as the season comes to an end. After going 1-6-1 in the least 8 games, the Blue Jackets held a closed-door, players-only meeting to try and get back on track.

Things are getting chaotic as the regular season comes to an end.
