The Boston Bruins dropped their third straight (0-2-1), all coming on their road trip, which closes tomorrow in Raleigh, NC.

On the bright side, the playoffs do not feature a travel schedule this heavy. Gone are three games in four nights – in three different cities.

The Bruins held on yesterday; they picked up a point in overtime, a point that Marco Sturm called “huge.” Sturm hit blend on the first and third line, reuniting the old first line and letting the third line run with youth and speed. But the Flyers pulled away in overtime.

The Bruins have scored one goal in each of their last three games.

In the Eastern Conference, the Canadiens clinched a playoff spot, but they followed up by snapping their eight-game win streak. The Senators picked up a win, as did the Penguins, but the Detroit Red Wings fell, and their playoff chances took a hit.

Also, another late-season coaching change. Patrick Roy is out on Long Island, and longtime head coach Pete DeBoer is in. There are four games left in the Islanders’ season, and they slipped outside of the playoff picture with Philadelphia’s win.

Happy Monday, catch up on Bruins and league news in today’s Daily Bean:

Boston Bruins

BRUINS LOSE: The Boston Bruins (43-26-9) lost in overtime to the Philadelphia Flyers (39-26-12) yesterday. They fall to 0-2-1 in their road trip. Pavel Zacha scored his 29th goal of the season, which was his 11th on the power play, but that was it. Porter Martone, in his fourth NHL game, won it in overtime.

Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves in the OT loss and moved to 7-1-5 in his last 13 starts.

BREAK APART: As always, Marco Sturm is happy with the point. And for good reason, the Bruins are in the middle of a playoff push. Their playoff odds increased, and they still have a cushion in the first wild card spot.

He also shuffled the lines ahead of the game, bringing back the first line of Morgan Geekie, Elias Lindholm, and David Pastrnak

Prospects Update

This week’s Prospect Notebook will be out this afternoon.

NHL News & National Hockey Now

ESPN: One week after Bruce Cassidy got canned in Vegas, Patrick Roy was let go on Long Island. The Islanders announced the hire of Pete DeBoer, who is coming in on a multi-year contract.

Bruins assistant coach Steve Spott has a tight bond and has worked with DeBoer since their time in the OHL.

NHL on TNT (video via YouTube): Tuukka Rask was on the TNT panel yesterday when the Islanders’ news broke.

Philly Hockey Now: For the other side of coverage from yesterday’s game, check out PhHN for the Flyers Postgame Blog. Will James was there yesterday and said it was a playoff-like atmosphere. Then, their first-round pick scored his first NHL goal. The Flyers now sit third in the Metropolitan Division.

And, to his credit, Will texted me and called Porter Martone’s game-winning goal.

Carolina Hockey Now: The Senators are hungry, and they gained some ground in the second wild card spot. They beat the Hurricanes last night, 6-3, in Canada’s capital city. In the loss, old friend Taylor Hall scored his 300th career NHL goal.

Detroit Hockey Now: The game before the Bruins was a good one. The Detroit Red Wings attempted a third-period comeback, but the Minnesota Wild halted it. Bob Duff has more on the Red Wings running out of time, and coach Todd McLellan running out of patience.

The Wings remain outside of the playoff picture; they are two points behind the Senators for the second wild card.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Canadiens’ eight-game win streak came to a close yesterday. They fell to the New Jersey Devils, 3-0, at the Bell Centre.

The Red Wings’ loss led to the Canadiens clinching a playoff spot on Sunday.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins beat the Panthers at PPG Paints Arena, again, on Sunday. They swept the weekend against the Panthers and knocked them out of the playoffs yesterday. Dan Kingerski has the Penguins’ grades from yesterday.

They are also without Stuart Skinner, who might have been injured on the bench Saturday. Because they played in the afternoon, the Penguins recalled ECHL goaltender Taylor Gauthier yesterday
