The Seattle Kraken and Winnipeg Jets are set to meet for the third and final time of the regular season on Monday night at Canada Life Centre. Seattle is looking for a season sweep after taking each of the first two meetings by scores of 3-0 and 5-3.
This meeting presents a matchup of two teams outside of the Western Conference playoff picture. The Kraken are six points out of a playoff spot and enter this contest with losses in eight of their last nine games. On the other side, Winnipeg is a bit closer to a playoff spot, just four points out, but they have plenty of work to do and would need some help in order to make the postseason.
Kraken vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds
The Kraken and Jets own very similar records on the season. Seattle is 32-32-11, while Winnipeg is 33-31-12. Despite their similar records, oddsmakers are giving the edge to the home team. The Jets enter this matchup as the favourite with NHL odds of -166 on the moneyline. On the other side, the Kraken carry odds of +140 on the moneyline.
When it comes to the puckline, Winnipeg -1.5 is listed with odds of +150 while Seattle +1.5 has odds of -180. On the season, the Kraken are a strong 46-29 on the puckline, while the Jets hold a 36-40 record. The game total is listed at 5.5 with odds of -120 to the over and +100 to the under. The Kraken tend to play in lower-scoring games, as the under is 37-31-7 in their 75 games this season. Conversely, the Jets are 38-36-2 to the over.
With odds of +130, Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor has the shortest odds of any player to score a goal in this game. Connor leads the Jets and is tied for 16th in the NHL with 36 goals on the season. Bobby McMann has odds of +260 to find the back of the net, which are the shortest odds among any Seattle skater. McMann scored 19 goals in 60 games with the Maple Leafs before getting traded to the Kraken at the trade deadline. He has eight goals in 11 games with Seattle.
Seattle Kraken
It wasn’t long ago when the Kraken held a playoff spot in the Western Conference. While their playoff hopes aren’t officially dead yet, they are barely hanging on by a thread. The Kraken have lost eight of their last nine games and are now six points outside of a playoff spot.Â
The Kraken have struggled to light the lamp throughout the season, and they enter this Monday night matchup against the Jets ranking 26th in the NHL, scoring 2.79 goals per game. The penalty kill has also been extremely worrisome for Seattle this season. The Kraken are killing off just 72.8 per cent of opposing power plays, which is the second-worst mark in the NHL. That isn’t exactly a winning combination.
Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg offence has struggled all season long, but the power play has taken a major step back this season. Winnipeg led the NHL with a power play conversion rate of 28.9 per cent last season, but ranks 28th with a power play percentage of 17.2 per cent so far this season. Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele are putting up solid scoring numbers, but the depth scoring behind them hasn’t been there like in years past.
There is some positivity for the Jets right now, though, as they are a solid 5-2-0 in their last seven games. Winnipeg is four points out of a playoff spot and has a lot of work to do to make the postseason, but they appear to be firing on all cylinders right now.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Kraken vs. Jets?
These are two teams going in opposite directions right now. Seattle is crumbling down the stretch, while Winnipeg is playing arguably its best hockey of the season. It may be too little too late to make the postseason, but this Jets team is far more trustworthy than the Kraken right now. I expect the Jets to win this game 3-2.
