The NHL is set to investigate a dangerous incident that happened last night in the game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center.

NHL Investigating Penalty Box Incident At Buffalo Sabres Game

The NHL is looking into an incident from last night’s Buffalo Sabres-Tampa Bay Lightning game that left one player injured after he crashed into the penalty box door that was propped open.

The incident happened when Pontus Holmberg was checked into the boards by Buffalo Sabres player Peyton Krebs, and as he hit the boards, his arm hit the frame of the penalty box, which had its door slightly ajar. Check out the video from the incident below.

 

Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper said that leaving the box open is dangerous for all players on the ice, and the person who is in the box responsible for keeping the door shut needs to be investigated.

Pontus Holmberg left the game after the incident and did not return. According to timesunion.com, the NHL is currently investigating the incident.

Buffalo Sabres Move Back Into 1st Place In Atlantic Division

The Buffalo Sabres are now back tied for 1st place in the Atlantic Division with the Tampa Bay Lightning after beating Tampa Bay 4-2 last night at KeyBank Center. Both teams have 102 points on the season and are both 2 points behind the Carolina Hurricanes for 1st place in the Eastern Conference.

Up next for the Buffalo Sabres is a road game tomorrow night against the Rangers in New York.
