I read the heartwarming article on the Wild and Free program (“

9 black bears released back into Minnesota wild

,” March 28). After I read the bears were released back into the wild, I had a sick feeling. These animals had close human contact the entire time they were taken care of. When rescuers feel bears are ready for release, they are set free into the wild. These animals may no longer have fear of humans. If so, they are easy targets for hunters. I wonder how many actually survive, not knowing the humans they encounter in the wild are not friendly but may be there to kill them. Relocate the bears to a bear sanctuary.
