We witnessed a notable moment in the second period of the Montreal Canadiens vs Florida Panthers game at the Bell Centre.
The Canadiens had been going through an offensive slump for several periods, having not found the back of the net for over 116 minutes of play.
But the drought finally ended in the second period against the Florida Panthers, and in the best possible way.
While all eyes are on Cole Caufield and his pursuit of his 50th goal of the season, number 13 proved to everyone that he remains, above all, an excellent team player.
In a sequence shared by the NHL, Caufield can be seen gaining possession of the puck in the offensive zone.
Instead of forcing a shot toward the net to try to reach his historic milestone, he showed exceptional vision.
He truly wasn’t selfish—he passed the puck, and it paid off!
Cole Caufield sets up Ivan Demidov with unselfish play to end Canadiens drought
Realizing he didn’t have the best shooting lane, Caufield spotted Ivan Demidov and delivered a perfectly placed pass.
The young player only had to finish the brilliant play to beat the opposing goaltender and put the Canadiens on the scoreboard.
This sequence says a great deal about Caufield’s maturity and the mindset on the ice.
By making this perfect pass, Caufield clearly demonstrated that he won’t let his personal goal dictate his decisions or hurt the team’s success.
He put the team first and we love it!
This is exactly the kind of smart, unselfish play that will help the Canadiens regain their rhythm.
And by continuing to play the right way, Caufield’s 50th goal will eventually come naturally!
