The Boston Bruins suffered a 6-5 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on the road on Tuesday.
Boston is getting closer to clinching a playoff berth, and forward Morgan Geekie snapped his drought by scoring a hat trick. It was his first goals since March 5, but despite recording a hat trick, Geekie said it doesn’t matter as the team lost.
“It’s always nice, but on days like today, it doesn’t really mean anything,” Geekie said as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage on Tuesday. “It feels like if you come in here, it doesn’t matter if you score six goals, losses like that are tough to swallow.”
Boston led 3-2 after the first period, but was outscored 3-1 in the second period, and although the Bruins did force overtime, head coach Marco Sturm was disappointed with how the team played in the second period.
“We just totally lost control in that second period,” Sturm said. “But in the third, we wanted to play a certain way that at least gives us a chance. The guys responded well.”
But, by getting a point, the Bruins are getting closer to clinching a playoff berth. With the loss, Boston is now 43-26-10 and has three games left in the regular season.
The Bruins will return to the ice on Saturday at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
