BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A Blair County hockey fundraiser is returning this Saturday to both honor a life lost and help other families dealing with cancer.

The second “We Skate Together: the Skate for Nate Hockey Benefit” takes place this Saturday, April 11th, starting at 3 p.m. at Galactic Ice Rink in Altoona.

The fundraiser started in 2024 to help Nate Wooster during his battle with aggressive brain cancer.

Unfortunately, Nate passed away just before this past Christmas — but his family says his wish was always to keep helping others.

Saturday’s event will benefit Alvin Williams, who is a young boy who has brain cancer.

He’ll be at the rink and organizers are encouraging you to stop and say hello to him and be part of the fundraiser.

“We want to help Alvin out as he battles brain cancer and let him know that he is not alone in this and that there are tons of people out there that care and want to help out and that’s what we’re really excited about,” says Jonathan Wooster.

Activities at the event include adult and youth hockey games, a silent auction and baked goods.

All proceeds benefit local families impacted by cancer.
