The Tampa Bay Lightning are working alongside the Lightning Warriors Hockey Program to host the fifth annual Hockey Heals 22 on June 21 at AdventHealth Center Ice in Brandon.
Formed in 2017 and officially incorporated in 2020, the Lightning Warriors Hockey Program (LWHP) is a Tampa-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting disabled veterans through the game of hockey. With over 150 members, LWHP offers both recreational and competitive teams, providing a sense of camaraderie and purpose for those wounded in defense of the United States.

In November 2023, the Lightning joined forces with the organization, helping to expand opportunities for local veterans and spotlighting events like Hockey Heals 22, a signature initiative promoting mental health and support through sport.
With Hockey Heals 22, the Lightning Warriors will honor of the 22 veterans who lose their lives to suicide every day by playing 22 hours of hockey. Throughout the event, they will compete against local and visiting teams, veteran teams, first responders and local schools.
Community figures from the Tampa Bay area will be in attendance to show their support. All proceeds from the event support the Lightning Warriors Hockey Program, the Malone Family Foundation and Mission Roll Call.
“This event is a powerful way to show our support for veterans and foster a sense of community,” said Chris Scangarello, Executive Director of the Lightning Warriors Hockey Program. “We are committed to reducing the number 22 every day, and Hockey Heals 22 plays a vital role in that mission.”
