The Columbus Blue Jackets look to keep their slim playoff chances alive when they travel to take on the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

The Montreal Canadiens look for their third straight win when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. The Canadiens have already won 10 of their last 11 games and clinched a playoff spot. Now Montreal is going for the top spot in the Atlantic Division standings. That position is currently held by the feel-good story of the season in the Buffalo Sabres. Montreal doesn’t have time for a good story, as it is only two points back of Buffalo with 104 points and three games left in the regular season. Columbus comes into this matchup with 90 points and is in a win-now or go-home mode for the rest of the season. The Blue Jackets are four points back of the Ottawa Senators, who hold the second and final Wild Card spot in the East. Both the Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders are ahead of Columbus in the playoff standings. It is not helping the Blue Jackets’ cause that they’ve lost seven of their last eight games. This season series is tied 1-1 heading into this Game 3 finale, after Montreal tied it up with a 2-1 victory on March 26 at home. Zack Bolduc scored the go-ahead goal in the third period for Montreal’s third straight win. It was Bolduc’s first goal since Dec. 25, and Jakub Dobes was strong in net, earning the second star with 25 saves. The only Columbus player to get past him was Damon Severson. The first two games of this series were decided by one goal, so expect another one tonight with Montreal holding a -142 line to earn the series victory at home tonight.

Montreal won back-to-back games with a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday. Cole Caufield hit a big milestone of 50 goals this season, which makes him the first Canadien in more than three decades to accomplish the feat. Tampa tied the game with less than two minutes left in regulation, but Damon Severson saved the day by earning the go-ahead goal less than a minute later. Severson added an assist to earn the second star of the night after Caufield. Montreal tied the series in the finale, 2-2.

Columbus ended a six-game losing streak with a win on Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings, but the Blue Jackets lost again on Thursday, falling 5-0 to Buffalo. The Blue Jackets couldn’t figure out the Sabres’ rookie goalie Colten Ellis. He stopped 37 shots for his first career shutout. Josh Doan took care of the rest for Buffalo, scoring two goals for the game’s second star. Despite the performance, Columbus still won the season series, 2-1.
