The Tampa Bay Lightning go for the season-series sweep against their Atlantic Division rivals when they travel on Saturday afternoon for this finale against the Boston Bruins. Neither of these teams is finishing out the regular season well right now. The Lightning are trying to avoid losing four in a row, while the Bruins have already lost four straight. The Lightning have secured a playoff spot and look locked into the third seed of the Atlantic division. Boston holds the top Wild Card spot over the Ottawa Senators, who currently hold the second Wild Card. Tampa Bay leads this series 3-0 and is six points ahead of Boston for third in the division. These two last played last Saturday, with the Lightning winning the series 3-1. Darren Raddysh broke a tie late in the third period to give the Lightning the win. Casey Mittelstadt scored the first goal of the game in the second period, but Boston couldn’t get on the board again. The win was even more important for Tampa Bay, which was the one that clinched a playoff spot, which it has done every year now since 2017. But the Lightning are looking for their first playoff series win since they lost the Stanley Cup to the Colorado Avalanche in 2022. The Lightning are the -125 favorite to earn the sweep on the road this afternoon.

Boston is coming off back-to-back overtime losses, most recently falling to the Atlantic Division leaders, the Carolina Hurricanes, 6-5. Jaccob Slavin scored the game-winner for Carolina 1:13 into the extra period. The Bruins were up 3-2 after one period, but Carolina went on to score the next three goals. Boston still had some fight, though, scoring the next two, and Pavel Zacha scored the game-tying goal in the middle of the third. Carolina won the series 2-1. Boston earned the extra point and kept it close despite being outshot 41-21.

Tampa Bay lost its third straight in a 2-1 final against another Atlantic Division rival, the Montreal Canadiens, on Thursday. Cole Caulfield scored his 50th goal of the season, which was the first time that’s happened in Montreal’s storied history in more than three decades. Raddysh tied the game up for the Lightning with 1:51 left in regulation, in what looked like would force overtime, but Montreal’s Juraj Slafkovsky scored the game-winner less than a minute later. Montreal tied the season series 2-2 and is now two points ahead of Tampa Bay in the division, in second place behind the Hurricanes.
