The Florida Panthers (37-38-4 SU, 29-50 ATS) play their last road game of the season, visiting the Toronto Maple Leafs (32-33-14 SU, 33-46 ATS). Both teams sit well outside the playoffs with 78 points, both are four losses deep into a skid, and both would quietly benefit from leaving Scotiabank Arena empty-handed on Saturday night. Draft lottery implications aside, someone has to win. The Maple Leafs enter as -128 home favorites at FanDuel, with the total set at 6.5 goals.

Florida panthers vs. toronto maple leafs Pick

Look, this isn’t going to be pretty. Florida is missing basically their entire starting lineup including Barkov, Tkachuk, Marchand, Reinhart, and Ekblad; just to name a few. Toronto isn’t much better off without Matthews, Stolarz, Tanev, and Carlo. What we’re getting this Saturday night is two beat-up rosters just going through the motions at the tail end of a season.

Defensively, neither team has any shot at being trusted right now. Florida has let in 23 goals over their last four games (yes, you read that right). Toronto has given up 20. The Leafs have coughed up four or more goals in their last six games. On paper, the gap between them is tiny with Florida allowing 3.41 goals a game and Toronto giving up 3.54; both horrid numbers. The biggest difference between these two teams right now is in goal. Toronto has the slight edge. They score more (3.10 GPG), their power play clicks a bit better (20.8%), and they’re at home while Florida is 16-23-1 SU on the road.

However, the Leafs have been getting outshot badly lately, including last game where the Islanders outshot them, 44-16. Toronto is giving up nearly 35 shots a night as per our shots on goal report, while the Panthers are recording a middling 28.2 shots.

It’s not necessarily “Stars On Ice” out there tonight, with a bunch of inexperienced or unmotivated players on both benches. Both teams lose out on draft positioning if they win, and while no coach is going to say that out loud, you wonder how hard legs are really going to be moving. Plus, the UNDER has hit in six straight meeting between these two, even when they had their rosters intact.

Panthers Vs. Maple Leafs Pick: UNDER 6.5 (-110)

Joseph Woll OVER 26.5 Saves (-112 at FanDuel)

Toronto is always hanging Woll out to dry. Like I said, the Leafs are letting him face nearly 35 shots a night across their last 10 games. Because of this, Woll has recorded 26.5 saves or more in nine of his last 10 starts, averaging 31.9 saves per game in that stretch. Despite their losing streak, the Panthers have still been averaging 27.5 shots, enough to keep Woll active between the pipes tonight.
