The NHL has its eyes on Dallas to host another outdoor game.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman met with the media ahead of Game 5 of the Western Conference finals in Dallas Thursday night, and when asked about the potential for an outdoor game in Dallas, he hinted one could be coming.
“No announcement tonight, but it’s something we’re focused on,” Bettman said with a smile.
The commissioner’s comments came just a month after Dallas Stars owner Tom Gaglardi told a small group of media members that one of his focuses is securing another outdoor game in Dallas.

“I’d love to see an outdoor game, and that’s gonna happen,” he said. “I believe it’ll happen.”
The Stars hosted the 2020 NHL Winter Classic at the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 1, 2020, beating the Nashville Predators 4-2. The sold-out crowd of 85,630 made it the second-most attended game in NHL history.
Dallas has not hosted an outdoor game since.
The league announced this week that the Florida Panthers will host the 2026 Winter Classic at LoanDepot Park in Miami against the New York Rangers, but the league typically hosts an additional Stadium Series game outdoors.
This past year’s outdoor game was in Columbus, Ohio, at Ohio Stadium where the Columbus Blue Jackets took down the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 on March 1.
