We know how the Vancouver Canucks are viewed within our city. But what does everyone else think of them?

An anonymous poll of NHL agents conducted by The Athletic revealed just how far the Canucks’ reputation has fallen league-wide. While you wouldn’t expect the NHL’s 32nd team to rank highly on such a poll, the reviews were particularly scathing from the over 20 agents polled.

The Canucks were named the “worst-run franchise in the NHL,” with seven of 22 agents picking Vancouver. The next closest team was the New York Rangers, with four votes.

The critiques ranged from “they’re a mess” to “I don’t know what their plan is.”

The Canucks also ranked second in “hardest front office to deal with,” receiving four of 23 votes. Only the Anaheim Ducks ranked higher, with seven votes.

While they keep better company on this list (the Carolina Hurricanes received three votes), the comments from agents were alarming.

“No alignment with what’s happening in the organization,” one agent was quoted. “Just a discombobulation. Good people, nice guys, but it’s just not working.”

The current Canucks management regime, headlined by Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin, has been in charge for over four years. Other than a one-year blip, where the team won its division and made it to the second round of the playoffs, the franchise has taken a nosedive under their watch.

One agent polled by The Athletic compared the team to a soap opera, and certainly it’s easy to see why. The way Bruce Boudreau was let go in 2023 was off-putting for many. So was the feud that was allowed to fester between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson.

And those are just the headlining ways the Canucks have embarrassed themselves in the last four years.

Makes you wonder what the organization will do this summer. There have been conflicting reports regarding the future of Allvin, though it seems Rutherford will keep his job.

We’ll see if they can change the attitudes of agents in the future.
